1st place in Japan at the Japan Aeropress Championship 2023. 6th place in the world at the World Aeropress Championship 2023.

Kotaro Mikami, head barista and head roaster at ZHYVAGO COFFEE ROASTERY, won first place in Japan at the Japan Aeropress Championship 2023 held in October 2023. He then represented Japan at the World Aeropress Championship 2023 held in Melbourne, Australia, where he placed 6th out of 54 countries.

This competition is basically a competition of three people per group, and the winner is decided based on the results of the judging. The barista who brews the highest quality coffee will advance in a tournament format, aiming to become the winner.
Within five minutes, participants were given the task of selecting and extracting beans, determining their characteristics, individuality, and negative aspects based on their place of origin, and then deciding on the grinding method, extraction temperature, extraction time, etc. Competitors will adjust the balance of flavors and compete on the basis of their experience, sensitivity, expression, and responsiveness.

Mikami made it to the semi-finals of the world championships, but lost to Germany, who came in second in the tournament, and was disappointed to be just one step away from the trophy. However, he shared the experience and lessons he gained from this tournament with his staff, and will continue to improve ZHYVAGO COFFEE's skills and the quality of its daily coffee. Next year, we will aim to become number one in Japan and take first place at the world championships.
